|
|
Arno Rafael Minkkinen, (finnischer Fotogaf, lebt und arbeitet in den USA)
Weltweit bekannt wurde er durch Fotografien seiner eigenen Körperformationen, verbunden mit Naturlandschaften. Minkkinen erinnert an das Essentielle und zeigt mit Witz, Eleganz und Kreativität, ohne Verwendung von Bildbearbeitungsprogrammen, die natürliche Schönheit des Körpers.
Seit über 35 Jahren setzt der finnisch-amerikanische Fotograf Arno Minkkinen fotografisch in erster Linie seinen Körper ein, um surrealistische Ansichten des Menschen und der Natur ins Bild zu setzen. In der Fotografie der Gegenwart eine bestimmte Richtung zu etablieren erfordert mehr als ein gutes Auge für das Medium. Es bedeutet vielmehr aus Hunderten von Bildern jenes herauszusuchen, das die eigenen Intentionen am besten ausdrückt, so dass ein Werk entstehen kann, das nicht nur für andere eine Offenbarung darstellt, sondern auch der eigenen Inspiration und Erkenntnis dient. Minkkinen ist sowohl Fotograf und Bildermacher, als auch Künstler, der eine an der Gegenwart orientierte Sichtweise auf die Welt einnimmt.
Arno Rafael Minkkinen is known for his black and white abstract pieces which juxtapose bodies and landscapes in surprising ways: he "directs scenes in which his body - or a portion of it - appears as an integral part of the landscape - such as an outcropping or rock formation".
Minkkinen was born in Helsinki, Finland in 1945. After his family moved to the United States, Minkkinen graduated from Wagner College in 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, and from Rhode Island School of Design where he studied with Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind with a Master of Fine Arts in Photography. After teaching for a few years at M.I.T. Minkkinen is now a Full Professor at the University of Massachusetts Lowel.
Minkkinen's work is included in over 55 major museum/institutional collections including the Helsinki Museum of Photography, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. |
