Bertold Mathes (*1957, Freiburg i. Br.) studierte von 1979 bis
1985 an der Staatlichen Akademie der Bildenden Künste
Karlsruhe/Freiburg. In seiner Arbeit lotet der Maler die
Grenzen des abstrakten Gemäldes aus und erforscht das
abgründige Potenzial des gegenstandslosen Bildes.

investigates the limitations of abstract painting and researches
the enigmatic potential of abstract images. Since the 1980s,
the artist has been moving like a border crosser between the
systematic creation of images and visually imaginative
representativeness, between geometric shapes and
amorphous structures.
